That's the name of the game: Autopilot. Who doesn't want to make money without working? Spend some time setting up the ideal scenario, and... relax while your bank account grows!

Maybe that was possible for the Internet pioneers in the 1990s and early 2000's but not anymore! Believe me you have to work, and work very hard. Far away from your dreamed weekly bank account checkup and minor tweaking, you can expect to do major and ongoing hands-on work to keep your dream of making money online alive....so don't keep dreaming in autopilot!

In whatever web initiative you have, the key will be to generate traffic. Unfortunately this is the most difficult matter and everywhere you research you'll find plenty of "solutions".

But not only through research will you find the answer to this question. In fact the answer/s will come to you via that same traffic that you're so eagerly expecting to generate. Let me clarify... For some odd reason, as soon as you go live, you will become a magnet for all kinds of spammers, that will offer you incredible deals, and especially web marketing packages, traffic-generating ideas, thorough analysis of your web traffic and "solutions" for your shortcomings...all for a small fee.

This is definitely not the kind of traffic you're looking for...so beware of it!

Anybody familiar with programming techniques, knows about "divide and conquer". Here is a definition from Wikipedia: A divide and conquer algorithm works by recursively breaking down a problem into two or more sub-problems of the same (or related) type, until these become simple enough to be solved directly.

My experience has taught me that Combine and Wait is a sound methodology when you're trying to start up an online business. Combine different things you learn, and wait for results. How long you wait until you tweak your strategy is the key here. Some people will want to keep changing the strategy if they don't see immediate results....and also if they do see results, as they will want to increase those.

Star and Game, both words highly appropriate when it comes to describe today's and probably near future's top online money making machinery...the Social Networks. Even though they've been around for quite a long time, the Social Networks really kicked off as a Marketing tool after Facebook's boom.

I do remember the existence of communities of users with similar interests, email lists, forums, chats, and sites that offered a wide variety of free communication tools way before Facebook came into being. However for some strange reason Facebook along with a few others like Twitter and more business-oriented networking sites like LinkedIn really made the grade.

Year 1997. I started interacting with web technologies from the other side of the counter. From basic HTML to advanced ASP scripting and component creation and MS SQL database integration within MS Internet Information Server. Around the year 2000 I presented a project of mine at a conference/contest and was awarded 1st place. The project was a CMS with some basic features. Rare a that time, there I was being a big innovator.

I learned a lot about web technologies in those initial years, and even gave a couple of lectures on topics related to web development, 3 layer model, site usability, etc specially in connection to the various Microsoft Web tools at that time.

If you expect to find success stories of how I became a millionaire on the Internet, this is NOT your place to be! I did not become a millionaire and I did not even manage to make a decent amount of money off the Internet.

On the other hand, I spent many hours, days, weeks, months and even years developing ideas all the way from conception to implementation, of online technologies, some of them being very simple, but some of them made up of a really intricate combination of technologies that required plenty of research and hands-on time.
